Always a thing of joy building lives
for Christ and seeing them move on successfully. The apostle said he had no
greater joy than to hear that his children walk in the faith (III John 4). In
this age of consumerist Christianity, making disciples for Christ still remains
the Lord's heartbeat. Christians should not be carried away by what is
'trending'. We should rather ask ourselves whether we are truly part of the
harvesters in the Lord's vineyard. The harvest is indeed much but the labourers
are few. They are few, not because they are not there, but because
we have dropped God's agenda for our
own. God's agenda is soul-winning and discipleship, while our own is gimmicks
for growing our bank accounts, acquiring and accumulating more wealth, and, why
not, living in pleasure. This has now become the index of progress in the faith
for many. But how mistaken! Our present understanding of the Christian Faith is
a far cry from what the Lord Jesus Christ intended. Could He who made and owns
heaven and earth not make Himself comfortable in luxury if He wanted? Why then
did He choose not to have a place to lay His head? Why did He have to borrow
almost everything He wanted, including food to feed the hungry? Could He who
owns the cattle upon a thousand hills not have food? Could He by whom and
through whom and for whom all things were created lack anything? Yet for our
sake He chose to be like the rest of us humans, without taking on our sinful
nature. The hymn writer says,"He left His Father's throne above; So free,
so infinite His grace; Emptied Himself of all but love; And bled for Adam's
helpless race..". That is the path the Master took, and we should do no
less. We are called to win souls and make disciples. This is where true and
lasting joy begins. This is a mark of the true Christian.
It costs to make make disciples. But
the Lord says to carry our cross daily and follow Him. You rarely hear this
from our pulpits today. It will scare members away, and we would lose the cash
and jeep. So we tell them they can do anything and prosper. Anything that is,
except, not giving. The latter is the only sin today that attracts divine wrath
that manifests in poverty, sickness and reverses in life. But if they just keep
giving or simply being benevolent to the pastor, 'their transgression is
forgiven and their sin covered'. I have my fears about the faith of the
products of such hodgepodge gospel. We need to call people to repentance. This
end time society is overly degenerate. Let the true servants of the true and
living God now speak out. Forget that you may be the odd person out. But if the
message heals our broken society, we would be glad.
Arise, O servant of the living God.
Tarry no longer in the wilderness of what is trending. Return to the faith once
delivered the saints. Make disciples for the Master, even for the Lord Jesus
Christ. That will mark you out as a true Christian, for none other has such
time, but the true child of God. Your reward would be great, both in this life
and in that which is to come.
Peace be with you!
