“Consider how the lilies grow… If that is how God
clothes
the grass of the field…how much more will He clothe
you?”
Anxiety is an abnormal accompaniment of life. It is
often there and abnormally so. When we take an examination, we get anxious to
know the result. If we or our loved ones get sick we become anxious about the
outcome. If we marry and the children are not forthcoming as expected, we lose
our peace. If employers are retrenching, we become anxious about our fate. If a
neighbour passes through an unpleasant experience, it haunts us in our dream in
the night. If we are getting near retirement, we become apprehensive about the
future. Anxiety is an unwelcome part of life. It is next-of-kin to fear. But it
can be overcome.
It is in the light of this that we want to remind
ourselves of what the Lord said. Knowing how prone to fear, anxiety and worry
human nature is, the Lord admonished us not ot worry, telling us to consider the
flowers of the field and learn some lesson. Flowers are beautiful. We love and
use them for decoration and as background to our snapshots. The beauty of the
lilies does not come from any effort of theirs but from the work of God. Yet they
are not preserved eternally as we are. So, if that is how God takes care of the
grass of the field, will He not do much more for you? The answer is obvious. He
will.
We don’t know exactly what unsettles you…perhaps any
of the examples given above, or some other matter. You know better and God
knows best. We want you to know that God is concerned about it. He is working
on it and will bring out the best on the matter for you. Consider the lilies
and know that though they are not as important as you are, God still cares for
them. It implies then that God will do even more for you than for the lilies.
Relax your mind. Trust God and expect His answer
that will cheer your heart. May God give you a testimony soonest, Amen.
