That is what must guide Nigerian authorities in their romance with China in the fight against COVID-19. This is a disease said to have originated from Wuhan, a Chinese city and spread like wildfire over the whole world. They are said to have recovered from theirs - and why not, if as allegedly said, they invented it. What is the guarantee of goodwill in a people about whom scary tales of domination evolve?
China was alleged to have bugged the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethipia, a building they fully funded and built and handed over to the continental body in 2012. It was not until 2017 that it was discovered that the computer servers which were also fully funded and installed by the Chinese leaked the continent's confidential information to China in faraway Shanghai. Of course, China denied any such thing. But whether true or false, the African leaders went on to change the servers.
We cannot afford to try such experiment with health. Parleying with China in this fight against COVID-19 could be costly. Lives lost can never be regained. We cannot afford to use their face masks, test kits, ventilators, vaccines, drugs or doctors with confidence. Subjecting the materials to tests or monitoring their doctors will not suffice to put the craze in check.
The solution is to REJECT and DISCARD this Chinese experiment. However we have been managing, we can do better with good compliance to lockdown and provision of sustenance to citizens. Our indigenous doctors are doing well and are willing to join in the fight. Let us engage them.
