COVID-19 IN NIGERIA: WE SAY NO TO CHINA INTERVENTION

Can the world ever trust China again? Would Nigeria romance with the prime suspect of the current global crisis (COVID-19)? How can we? In 2012 China handed over a fully funded and built headquarters building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to the African Union (AU). A great gesture of friendship and solidarity, perhaps. But not long after, it was alleged to have been bugged, leaking vital, confidential information of the Union to China in faraway Shanghai! True or false, the Union had to change its computer servers to check the alleged mischief. But issues of health are different. Misfiring means losing a life, or even lives. On a national scale, that can amount to thousands. Painful loss. Avoidable loss. The authorities must tread with caution here. Face masks, test kits, ventilators, vaccine and doctors - all from or of China. Hmmmm, caution we must exercise. Until now we have been using our indigenous doctors, and they have been doing well. WHY CHANGE THE WINNING TEAM? Please let us DISCARD this idea of Chinese intervention. WE DON'T NEED IT. Let us stay safe Stay indigenous. Stay Nigerian We shall overcome

2015: Sultan Warns Politicians Against Shedding Blood

sultan-of-sokoto_2The Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, yesterday warned politicians to avoid staining the nation with innocent blood in their jostle for positions as the 2015 election approaches.Sultan, who warned against utterances and acts capable of putting the nation in flames ahead of 2015, lamented that rather than play politics of love and ideology as is done elsewhere, Nigerian politicians adopt politics of acrimony and intolerance, even as he called for sanity in the polity.

Sultan spoke in his palace when the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, paid him a courtesy call, and to present the  N250 million cheque donated by President Goodluck Jonathan to Sokoto traders who where recently affected by the Kara market fire outbreak.
Insisting that Nigeria needs stability in general and not in a single political party, he reiterated that the much heightened politics of hatred preached by political actors in the country now would do no one any good.
“So much acrimony and mudslinging is now going on in Nigeria and there is the need to stabilise the nation’s polity. So many things are now happening in the nation’s polity contrary to what obtains in other parts of the world.
“We need to do whatever it takes to have stability in the polity. Whosoever emerges in 2015 should be acceptable to all Nigerians. Violence always begets violence and there is no where in the world where violence will bring peace.
“Leaders at all levels must always preach peace for Nigeria to evenly develop,” he said.
Meanwhile, worried by the recurring clashes between the Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen in Benue State,  Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar has appealed to both warring parties to sheath their sword and give peace a chance.
The sultan, who is the chairman, Board of Trustees of Miyyeti Allah Cattle Breeders’ Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), stressed that the hostilities which always occur in Guma and Gwer West LGAs of the state had already claimed scores of lives and property worth billion of naira in the state.
The royal father was particularly worried with the escalation of the feud which had led to the burning down of Tukura village the home town of Tor TIV and his personal house.
