COVID-19 IN NIGERIA: WE SAY NO TO CHINA INTERVENTION

Can the world ever trust China again? Would Nigeria romance with the prime suspect of the current global crisis (COVID-19)? How can we? In 2012 China handed over a fully funded and built headquarters building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to the African Union (AU). A great gesture of friendship and solidarity, perhaps. But not long after, it was alleged to have been bugged, leaking vital, confidential information of the Union to China in faraway Shanghai! True or false, the Union had to change its computer servers to check the alleged mischief. But issues of health are different. Misfiring means losing a life, or even lives. On a national scale, that can amount to thousands. Painful loss. Avoidable loss. The authorities must tread with caution here. Face masks, test kits, ventilators, vaccine and doctors - all from or of China. Hmmmm, caution we must exercise. Until now we have been using our indigenous doctors, and they have been doing well. WHY CHANGE THE WINNING TEAM? Please let us DISCARD this idea of Chinese intervention. WE DON'T NEED IT. Let us stay safe Stay indigenous. Stay Nigerian We shall overcome

Etsu Nupe To Politicians: Don’t Overheat The Polity

Abubakar, who is the 13th Etsu Nupe, gave the advice at a book launch in his honour entitled “A Custodian of Our Customary Heritage,” which took place at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja yesterday.
“I wish to advise politicians against activities of any kind that may be capable of overheating the polity. We all need to ensure that we do not do anything that will jeopardize the peace that is gradually returning to the country,” he said.
At the event, encomiums poured in for the Etsu Nupe by the various speakers, who delivered goodwill messages at the event attended by prominent Nupe sons and daughters, including guests from all walks of life. Over N100 million was realised at the launch.
Former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, represented by Ambassador Ibrahim Maitama Sule, who served as the chairman of the occasion, praised the Etsu Nupe, adding that he was delighted to chair the event being a multiple traditional titles holder himself.
The 11-chapter book, which is authored by the duo of David Ashaolu and Abiodun Oduwale, was reviewed by a deputy dean of the University of Abuja’s Faculty of Law, Dr. Shehu Abdullahi Zuru, who said the book was a well researched scholarly work and presents Nupe history in a unique way.
Niger State governor, Muazu Banbangida Aliyu, who was represented by his deputy, Ahmed Musa Ibeto, described the Etsu Nupe as “undoubtedly one of the most illustrious ‘Nigerlites’ of this generation.
On his part, Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, said the Etsu Nupe had paid his dues in the Nigerian project and stated that the book was not only for the people of Nupe but for all Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, Suleiman Hassan, said the honouree is not only a custodian of customary heritage as the title of the book suggests but also a custodian of peace and unity in Nigeria.
