COVID-19 IN NIGERIA: WE SAY NO TO CHINA INTERVENTION

Can the world ever trust China again? Would Nigeria romance with the prime suspect of the current global crisis (COVID-19)? How can we? In 2012 China handed over a fully funded and built headquarters building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to the African Union (AU). A great gesture of friendship and solidarity, perhaps. But not long after, it was alleged to have been bugged, leaking vital, confidential information of the Union to China in faraway Shanghai! True or false, the Union had to change its computer servers to check the alleged mischief. But issues of health are different. Misfiring means losing a life, or even lives. On a national scale, that can amount to thousands. Painful loss. Avoidable loss. The authorities must tread with caution here. Face masks, test kits, ventilators, vaccine and doctors - all from or of China. Hmmmm, caution we must exercise. Until now we have been using our indigenous doctors, and they have been doing well. WHY CHANGE THE WINNING TEAM? Please let us DISCARD this idea of Chinese intervention. WE DON'T NEED IT. Let us stay safe Stay indigenous. Stay Nigerian We shall overcome

Prof. Akanji disclosed this while receiving members of National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) who paid him a visit in Minna as part of their zonal convention held at FUT Minna Auditorium.
According to Akanji all the stakeholders in the university would be consulted on the way the money would be expended when the money is released to the university.
The vice chancellor stated that it was heartwarming that the federal government has kept its side of the bargain with ASUU by allocating the funds to the universities.
The vice chancellor stated that it is a good development for the educational advancement of Nigeria that government of President Goodluck Jonathan has taken the challenge of injecting more funds into the universities.
The zonal convention which comprises about ten states  was held at FUT Auditorium, with the senior special assistant to the president on youth and student matters, Comrade Jude Imagwe in attendance,
Imagwe decried the long polytechnic lecturers’ strike.
saying that that “you cannot get result sometime through protest but through dialogue”.
He posited that if all unions in the country go on strike it would  adversely affect the economies of the country and therefore sympathized with the polytechnic and college of education students who have being at home due to strike.
While stating that the two unions should embrace dialogue he state that, “we should all sacrifice for the betterment of our country”.
