COVID-19 IN NIGERIA: WE SAY NO TO CHINA INTERVENTION

Can the world ever trust China again? Would Nigeria romance with the prime suspect of the current global crisis (COVID-19)? How can we? In 2012 China handed over a fully funded and built headquarters building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to the African Union (AU). A great gesture of friendship and solidarity, perhaps. But not long after, it was alleged to have been bugged, leaking vital, confidential information of the Union to China in faraway Shanghai! True or false, the Union had to change its computer servers to check the alleged mischief. But issues of health are different. Misfiring means losing a life, or even lives. On a national scale, that can amount to thousands. Painful loss. Avoidable loss. The authorities must tread with caution here. Face masks, test kits, ventilators, vaccine and doctors - all from or of China. Hmmmm, caution we must exercise. Until now we have been using our indigenous doctors, and they have been doing well. WHY CHANGE THE WINNING TEAM? Please let us DISCARD this idea of Chinese intervention. WE DON'T NEED IT. Let us stay safe Stay indigenous. Stay Nigerian We shall overcome

Enyeama to win his 100th cap!

Vincent Enyeama

Who says your labour is in vain? Rubbish it. You have not laboured in vain, and never would. That can be said to be Vincent Enyeama's testimony. The Nigerian first choice goalkeeper would win his 100th cap for Nigeria if he plays in the forthcoming friendly with either Bolivia or South Africa later this month. Enyeama came to the fore of Nigeria football from the shadows of retired safe hands, Ike Shorunmu, in the 2002 World Cup, when Technical Adviser Onigbinde, decided to field him ahead of Shorunmu, in the Group game against England. Despite the presence of marksmen like David Beckham and Michael Owen, Enyeama kept a clean sheet. The game ended a barren draw.
From then on, Enyeama has not looked back. Little wonder, former Nigeria defender Taribo West has commended the Super Eagles captain saying he deserves special honour during his 100th cap.
Meanwhile The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has dragged the Bolivian Football authorities to FIFA for breach of agreement. Bolivia has expressed fear about Boko Haram on which account they backed out of the friendly. It remains for FIFA to decide on that. The March 29 date with South Africa, however, remains.
We wish to call on the younger players to follow in this good footsteps of Enyeama. Service to one's country is not all about money. The fact that one is chosen out of millions should delight the heart. The service therefore should be done with joy, dedication and honour.
Congrats Enyeama, Nigeria's best and African's second best footballer. May God continue to increase you. Your labour has not been in vain, and will never be. God bless you.
