In Genesis 3: 20 the Bible says “Adam named his wife Eve.” This was
a couple upon whom was a divine sentence of death. They incurred divine
displeasure when they ate the fruit of which God had said they should not. Adam
would have resigned to fate knowing they have been sentenced already. But no!
As if to forestall the death God pronounced on their taking the forbidden fruit
he quickly named his wife Eve. Eve means ‘living’. Imagine living in the face
of death! Perhaps God has changed His mind about the death sentence to permit
them have children, even if in pains. Adam prophesied life even when death
starred them in the face. Eve was not only going to live, she was going to be
the mother of all living (Genesis 3: 20).
She had not yet known what it was like
to be pregnant. She has not yet had a child. But she was going to produce a
race, yea, many races, all living. And she did, because a man, her husband,
dared to pronounce the positive about her. Adam could have given up on the wife
after the divine sentence. But he did not. The situation must change. And it
did… for the better.
Learn to be positive, whatever the
situation. God loves positive people, people who would make threats and
obstacles look ordinary, and reach out for great heights in God.
God saw it in Moses, who, when he
saw the bush on fire but not consumed, did not run for dear life, but
approached the scene to see what was happening. There, God called him and used
him to deliver Israel (Exodus 3: 1 – 4).
God saw it in Joshua and Caleb who,
though in the minority (2 out of 12 spies) saw the Promised Land as good and
the giants as conquerable. God gave it to them. Joshua succeeded Moses as
leader of the people, and Caleb at 85, with unabated strength, received his
inheritance (Joshua 14: 6 – 15).
God saw it in a youth called David
whose intrepidity in the face of a seemingly unconquerable Goliath saw God give
victory to Israel (1 Samuel 17).
It was so for a certain woman with
the issue of blood who, with her 12 years of affliction and medical failure in
the hands of physicians, defied the crowd of merry-makers around Jesus to touch
the hem of the Lord’s garment. She did and got the healing she wanted (Mark 5: 25 – 34).
I fear many have looked at the
‘reality’ of their situations and circumstances, and in the process, have
forgotten what God could do for them. Someone may have struggled with their
faith in Christ without receiving the blessing they seek. God seems distant and
uninterested in their plight. This piece calls you to look beyond your experience
and keep your focus on God with whom nothing is impossible. He is much more
interested in your peace than you are, and is engineering the circumstances
around you to that end. Trust Him. Have faith in God. The end will turn out to
your joy. May your testimony of God’s visitation come speedily. May things turn
around for the better for you. Peace be with you!
