COVID-19 IN NIGERIA: WE SAY NO TO CHINA INTERVENTION

Can the world ever trust China again? Would Nigeria romance with the prime suspect of the current global crisis (COVID-19)? How can we? In 2012 China handed over a fully funded and built headquarters building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to the African Union (AU). A great gesture of friendship and solidarity, perhaps. But not long after, it was alleged to have been bugged, leaking vital, confidential information of the Union to China in faraway Shanghai! True or false, the Union had to change its computer servers to check the alleged mischief. But issues of health are different. Misfiring means losing a life, or even lives. On a national scale, that can amount to thousands. Painful loss. Avoidable loss. The authorities must tread with caution here. Face masks, test kits, ventilators, vaccine and doctors - all from or of China. Hmmmm, caution we must exercise. Until now we have been using our indigenous doctors, and they have been doing well. WHY CHANGE THE WINNING TEAM? Please let us DISCARD this idea of Chinese intervention. WE DON'T NEED IT. Let us stay safe Stay indigenous. Stay Nigerian We shall overcome

MAKE WISE CHOICES

We are daily inundated with options in life. They are so many that we often get confused about which to take. This is a common challenge to youths. In this piece, Simeon Ogbonna gives some words of wisdom on how to navigate successfully in the sea of availables.
First things first. The reason many people lose sight of where they are going is because they have not been able to draw a line between the important and the urgent. Some things are so dazzling that it is almost difficult to remove your eyes from them. Remember, however, that all that glitters is not gold. If it is not what you initially planned for, please do well to ignore it.
This is the very reason it is good to plan. The one who fails to plan has failed even without beginning yet. For those who do not know where they are going, everywhere would look alike. Life’s crossroads somewhat look similar, but only those who have no chart to guide their course would be misled.
An idea is ready to be accomplished through pursuit only when it is written down. Write the vision and make it plain so that pursuing it would be much easier. Bear in mind that distractions abound everywhere, potent enough to change your mind about the initially viable and reasonable decisions you have made.
Quite a number of people had good objectives and selfless plans in their minds before encountering present environmental challenges of life. Also, a good number has derailed because of some mundane things which scream for their attention. It is wise to go for ‘substance’, not just for things. Better to make men first than to make money. Some forget their initial dreams at the sight of money. Many opt for lucrative jobs because of the alluring luxuries attached.
Only the simple will understand. Understand now that you can be outstanding, for God uses ‘foolish things’ to confound the so-called wise of this world. Do not be too wise in your eyes. Seek for counsel in the right places, and ask for the way from those who have successfully gone through the paths with single eyes and clean hands and hearts. To see ahead, we must climb the shoulders of those who have gone ahead.
Detractors abound, wolves in sheep clothing, animate and inanimate, mighty and small. They aim at your focus, to destroy it and leave you with battered hopes and a directionless life. Do not be a prey. Some will come as friends. Beware and be strong, remembering that a person’s strength is not defined by the possession they have acquired but by the wise choices they made. Tread the path of wisdom. Remain blessed.
