COVID-19 IN NIGERIA: WE SAY NO TO CHINA INTERVENTION

Can the world ever trust China again? Would Nigeria romance with the prime suspect of the current global crisis (COVID-19)? How can we? In 2012 China handed over a fully funded and built headquarters building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to the African Union (AU). A great gesture of friendship and solidarity, perhaps. But not long after, it was alleged to have been bugged, leaking vital, confidential information of the Union to China in faraway Shanghai! True or false, the Union had to change its computer servers to check the alleged mischief. But issues of health are different. Misfiring means losing a life, or even lives. On a national scale, that can amount to thousands. Painful loss. Avoidable loss. The authorities must tread with caution here. Face masks, test kits, ventilators, vaccine and doctors - all from or of China. Hmmmm, caution we must exercise. Until now we have been using our indigenous doctors, and they have been doing well. WHY CHANGE THE WINNING TEAM? Please let us DISCARD this idea of Chinese intervention. WE DON'T NEED IT. Let us stay safe Stay indigenous. Stay Nigerian We shall overcome

WHATEVER WENT WRONG WITH THE HUMAN RACE?

God is a perfect God. So are His works. It is stated in the Bible that all He created was very good (Genesis 1. 31). So what went wrong with God’s creation, specifically with the human race? Has anything really gone wrong in the first place, or is this mere conjecture? Does not the evolution theory teach a steady rise in human development? Can we close our eyes and minds to scientific exploits and technological breakthroughs both past and present? Has not our world been the better for them?
We are told humans are made in the image and likeness of God. Using human language, we may say God has a scientific mind. You can make that out from the beauty of creation in Genesis chapter one. So, at least we can say God put in us His type of innovative mind that should creatively beautify the earth. That could account for God entrusting Adam with the care of His garden (Genesis 2. 15). What went wrong then? Simply this, that
Mr. Adam abused his power. With the responsibility to care for the garden was God’s command to Adam not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, else they would die (Genesis 2. 17). But Adam, with the wife Eve,  did eat, and became a different person…. On the wrong side of the scale!
That act of disobedience by Mr. and Mrs. Adam introduced sin into them, and death as a consequence (Romans 6. 23). God had said when they ate of it they would die. They died. That immediate death was other than physical, for they lived many more years thereafter. But their eyes were opened and they realized they were naked. Not only that, but they also knew that nakedness in public was shameful for adults, so “they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves” (Genesis 3. 7). It made them hide (or run) from God, as well as make them have a self-righteous attitude, in blaming others for their failure (Genesis 3. 8 – 13). That was spiritual death. The immediate death God told them of was spiritual. It permeated all of Adam and ultimately led to physical death. The sad effect of it is that the sin introduced did not end with Adam. It ran through his line to the present day (Romans 5. 12). Everybody has got it. That includes you and me. We are all born with it. The Bible says, “I was born a sinner – yes, from the moment my mother conceived me” (Psalm 51. 5). We begin the hiding from God from the womb. “The wicked go astray from the womb; they err from their birth” (Psalm 58. 3). “All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s path to follow our own” (Isaiah 53. 6).
That’s what went wrong …. Disobedience and rebellion. It led to human inventions. Adam invented clothes, or is it? The Bible says in Ecclesiastes chapter 7 verses 29 that God made us upright but we have sought out many inventions. If the inventions were all good that would have been okay, but what on earth are bombs and chemical weapons invented for? What are kidnappings, rape, assassinations, and like vices looking for in a world originally very good? God’s creation raised us but our inventions ruined us.  We must accept God’s verdict that we have all sinned and fallen short of His glorious standard (Romans 3. 23). We are all lost and need to return to God. This is where to start out on our journey as Christians – the acknowledgement of one’s sin and sinfulness. What went wrong must first be corrected. And God is ready to do just that for you because you are special to Him. We’ll tell you more about that next time.
Peace be with you!
